Reflections on the Mohammed Cartoons

The current cartoon-induced tempest that is fracturing – already fragile – relations between the West and the Islamic world, has given me much to ponder. My initial outrage was at some sections of the quasi-Christian right, many of whom have hijacked the Church as a surrogate for a supposed British identity, who claimed this incident proves that Islam is irreconcilable with Western society. The millions of peaceful Muslims who live and work in Europe and America show this belief to be nonsense.

Accountancy Jokes #1

So, there’s this bloke in a bar. He leans over to the chap sitting next to him and whispers: ‘Want to hear a joke about accountants?’ His neighbour stands up. He’s over six feet tall with massive shoulders and menacingly ugly with it. Towering over the bloke, he says: ‘Before you go ahead with that joke, you might want to know that I’m an accountant – with first-time passes from a Big Four firm, no less.’ He indicates to another drinker on the other side of the table. ‘And my boss here weighs 240lbs and is our finance director. Now, do you still want to tell that joke or not?

‘Nah,’ says the bloke breezily. ‘ I can’t be bothered to explain it twice.’
