Software & Services

Rational Geekery made possible by the following software and services.

Squarespace – Cutting-edge CMS technology from Anthony Casalena’s NYC start-up. For years I hosted by own WordPress blogs, but now all my content is managed by Squarespace and I couldn’t be happier.

MarsEdit & WriteRoom
– Longer articles are drafted in WriteRoom and then formatted and posted in Red Sweater Software’s brilliant MarsEdit. Shorter posts direct from MarsEdit.

Dropbox – Essential. Utterly essential. Mac, Windows, Linux, Android, and iPhone. 🙂

Realmac’s LittleSnapper for all screen grabs.

Pixlemator – Excellent native Mac image editor. Skinnier than Photoshop.

My RSS clients of choice are Reeder (Mac and iPhone), and the stock Google Reader on Android.

I use Gmail+Sparrow on the Mac for email. I use the Gmail client on my Android.

Delicious – For any interesting links I might fancy blogging.

Notational Velocity + Simplenote – For syncing posts/notes between devices when I know email is going to F things up.

While I use both Linux and Windows daily, I’m happiest and most productive on my Mac, so I have rounded up the Mac software I use. Generally I will use Windows Live Writer on my work laptop, and a simple text editor (synced to Dropbox) on my Peppermint Linux netbook.
