the other blair must go

The Guardian: London Assembly members call for Met Chief to quit

I can’t for the life of me understand how an institution can be found culpable of a person’s death, yet escape – effectively – scott-free?

I’m not saying Sir Ian Blair should walk the plank simply because someone’s head must roll for the death. That’s not the case. I just find certain aspects of the police’s conduct abhorrent.

Mistakes do happen. Especially in uncertain, stressful times. But it isn’t the shooting that gets to me. It was the pathetic lies the Met told after the point at which they knew they’d dropped a bollock. The police have a difficult job, but when they appear secretive and are found guilty of deceiving the public they’re supposed to serve, they endanger the trust the British people put into their police force.

The fine, which will be footed by the tax-payer, is a sick joke, and the entire episode reeks of an institutional cover-up. Blair should accept accountability for the deception, and walk.

not to poke fun or anything of the like…but for years this was the problem in northern ireland, now the english know what it feels like…blair must go, and the police must be held accountable…..the patten report and its “policing board” that we have here, which oversees policing, at local and central level, is a good model….

Hi spyder,I think your observation is valid. The Northern Irish shouldn’t think they suffer the ridiculousness of the British state alone. We all suffer that burden.Hope you’re okay, mate. How’s Uni?

Sir Ian Blair of course must go. However, we need to focus on who really is to blame for this debacle…one Tony Blair.
